About
Sarah Hersh (she/her) is an Atlanta-based composer and new music advocate who is particularly interested in promoting the music of composers from underrepresented groups. Recent commissions include works for Duo Neue Musik, Juxtatonal, and Height Difference Duo. Her work has been performed in the United States and Europe, as well as in Tanzania, by Clarinets for Conservation/Daraja Music Initiative, Duo46, Terminus Ensemble, Diagenesis, Juxtatonal, Transient Canvas, Out of Bounds Ensemble, the Florida Chamber Saxophonists, and the University of South Florida Wind Ensemble, as well as other performers and ensembles. She holds a BA in music from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and her Master of Music degree in composition from the University of Florida. Sarah has studied composition with Paul Richards, Paul Koonce, Phillip Rhodes, Conrad Cummings, Michael Wittgraf, and Roger Ames. She teaches composition at the University of West Georgia and is also an Artistic Director of the Atlanta-based new music group Terminus Ensemble. Sarah is a member of ASCAP.

Adam Ambrose, and the saxophone-cello duo of Jonathan Helton and Steven Thomas. Her work has also been performed by Duo46, Juxtatonal, NANOWorks Opera Company, Out of Bounds Ensemble, Terminus Ensemble, the University of Florida Saxophone Quartet, the University of South Florida Wind Ensemble, Carleton College Symphony Band, Band of Long Island, and others. Sarah has participated in and had works premiered at the Wilderness Act Performance Series, the Atlanta Opera’s 24 Hour Opera Project, the soundSCAPE new music festival, the SoundNOW Festival, and the YInMn Festival.
As a co-founder and artistic director of Terminus Ensemble, a new music ensemble dedicated to performing music by composers from the Atlanta area, Sarah is a strong advocate for new music as well as the music of women composers. Terminus was founded in 2011 and has performed dozens of works by local composers, as well as commissioned several composers from the greater southeastern United States.
Sarah holds a BA in music from Carleton College and her Master of Music degree in composition from the University of Florida, where her primary composition teachers were Phillip Rhodes and Paul Richards. She also studied with the wonderful Roger Ames. Sarah currently teaches composition at the University of West Georgia.
