Program Notes

Slow Stop to a Green Light explores the compositional mileage one can get out of small motivic elements. All three movements use similar material, although it is more apparent in the dialogue between the first and third movements. The very short middle movement serves as a quirky interlude between these two main movements of the (albeit already short) piece.

The original version of Slow Stop... was written for Yunkyung Hong in twelve hours for a 24 Hour Show presented by the University of Florida Chapter of the Society of Composers, Inc. The title, which is meant to be contradictory, implies confusion, speed, and the general insanity associated with writing a coherent piece of music in twelve hours.

This recording is by Alejandra Saez, who also premiered this version of the piece.
